The Heritage Model United Nations (MUN) team traveled to Washington, D.C. Thursday, Feb. 16 to compete at Georgetown University’s North American Invitational Model United Nations conference.
Dubbed by advisor and social studies teacher Mr. Mark Gruskin as the “Super Bowl” of MUN, NAIMUN is the largest student-run conference in the world, hosting over 3,300 delegates globally.
In addition to the conference, the team enjoyed a private tour of the U.S. Capitol building and visits to the Latvian embassy, Georgetown University, the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, the Smithsonian National Museum of Air and Space and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. They also met Heritage graduates Saatvik Kaul, Eric Bazail and Jonah Slewitt.
After six committee sessions, each ranging from an hour to three hours long, 25 delegates emerged victorious. Here is the list of awards:
Best Delegate: sophomore Ian Lumer, juniors Evan Seifer and Anya Pinto
Outstanding Delegate: junior Aditya Sharma, seniors Hannah Stadtlander, Alizain Fatehali, Sofia Toledo and Aurora Lai
Book Award: seniors Andrei Codreanu and Mary Abi-Karam
Honorable Delegate: junior Austin Klein, seniors Rob Gioia, Trace Binder, Alfredo Vega and Sophia Abati
Verbal Commendation: sophomores Shreyan Singha, Emma Delgado, Evan Soy, juniors Jacob Feldman, Shania Mahmood, Melissa Bermudez, Jordan Antevy, seniors Zaara Lacewala, Consuelo Phelan and Srijan Deoraj
