The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) set off to add a splash of color to this year’s Spring Fling festivities as they took charge of a vibrant face painting booth March 2. Members prepared to showcase their artistic talents, promising a day filled with whimsical designs and creative flair for all attendees to enjoy.
The volunteers who signed up to paint at the event were able to gain 1 NAHS point for one hour of work. The Events Chair of NAHS, senior Jadyn Jacobson, helped volunteers prepare for the event before-hand. “I had to set up training sessions and record myself at home for those who weren’t able to attend the sessions,” she said. “It was a lot of work but I think it was worth it because I got to see all the kids happy at the end.”
For 12 to 1 p.m., senior Annika Rui Chen and junior Calista Buitrago volunteered at the face painting booth.
“The process of face painting feels very calm and it’s going really good so far,” Buitrago, who had just started her session, said.
Junior Cristina Escardo, who also volunteered agreed. “Face painting can be a bit nerve wracking because there is always a worry over whether the customer will like what you do or not but overall, it’s a pretty relaxing experience,” she said.
While painting faces, the volunteers were able to play with fun and challenging designs.
“My favorite type of designs were definitely those involving things like butterflies and flowers,” Escardo said. “Painting special characters feels more fun and exciting.”
Chen’s favorite design was “was one with flowers, a crown, and bright colors such as blue and pink.”
Through their face painting booth, NAHS was able to add a unique artistic touch to the Spring Fling.
