American Heritage is home to many outstanding football players, including Anthony Schwartz, Patrick Surtain II and Tyson Campbell just to name a few. Currently, the school is home to the #1 wide receiver in the country and overall 9th best player in the nation according to football news outlets, 247sports and Rivals. Junior Brandon Iniss, has attracted attention from top college programs in the country, including former national champions Alabama University and Clemson University. His plan to commit to any of his college offers was unclear until recently, as of Aug. 22 when he verbally committed to play football for the Oklahoma Sooners in 2023.

Before getting to this point, Iniss decided to make football one of the top priorities in his life from a young age.

 “I started taking football seriously when I was in elementary school. My mom told me many years ago that the plan was for me to go to a good high school and get a scholarship offer to college so that she wouldn’t have to worry about paying for tuition. Fast forward a couple years and I’m committed to one of the top football teams in the country,” Iniss said.

Getting multiple offers from Division I colleges is one thing; however, getting multiple offers from colleges in the SEC (Southeastern Conference) is another. The SEC is known for producing the most NFL players out of any other conference, making it the most competitive league of college football in the nation. Iniss received scholarship offers from many collegiate teams in this conference, including Alabama, University of Florida and the University of Georgia, but ultimately chose to go to a school in a different conference. 

Instead, he would commit to  Oklahoma University, although it is a top college team , is not a member of the SEC; rather, it is  a member of the Big 12 conference, which is less competitive.

When asked why he chose to play football in the Big 12 conference at Oklahoma University as opposed to anywhere else in the SEC, Iniss said, “The family atmosphere when I was there in June was like no other. All the coaches are amazing and their production from the wide receiver position to the NFL is great, so it felt like the perfect fit for me.”

The football phenom has high expectations for his future in college, stating that not only does he aim to win the national championship in his conference, but also win the Biletnikoff Award and the Heisman Trophy; the latter two accolades go to the best wide receiver and most outstanding player in college football, respectively. 

Before he gets there, however, Iniss must handle his current task of winning a state championship with the Patriots and hopefully winning again his senior year. With top football schools such as Cardinal Gibbons, St. Thomas Aquinas and Chaminade Madonna in his schedule, he  has his work cut out for him.
