The varsity girls tennis team opened defense of their state championship by routing Nova Southeastern 7-0 behind strong performances from two young members. With their debut match of the season, the varsity girls tennis team swept a 7-0 victory against Nova Southeastern High School Feb. 2.
Freshman Jithya Rubesh and seventh grader Isabella Falagan, playing as the No. 1 and 2 singles, posted 8-4 and 8-0 victories in the Feb. 2 home match.
Junior Ellie Bill and seniors Ruby Cohen and Karina Fernandez, playing in the No. 3, 4 and 5 positions, also secured strong wins 8-1, 8-2 and 8-2.
“We had a great first game and it was so fun playing with my girls again. Our goal this year is to sweep states once again,” Bill said.
The team will face Doral Academy in their next match Feb. 6.

I love how even though they knew they was winning they kept it strong and went harder.
