Pi Day falls on March 14 every year, matching the celebrated number’s first three digits: 3.14. To honor pi, geometry classes organized in the 9000 quad on March 13. Students participated in a myriad of pi-themed activities, from tic-tac-toe to Yahtzee. After entertaining themselves, they feasted on a variety of circular or spherical treats, from pies to cheese balls.
Pi Day festivities are a longstanding tradition at Heritage, as the annual celebration of the holiday began even before the construction of the 2500 building.
“It’s definitely evolved,” said geometry teacher Mrs. Michele Okun, who has been the primary planner for the activities over the years. Back at their beginning, the festivities only involved sharing pie, but on March 13, pies alongside other circles like cupcakes and cookies covered tables. Though activities weren’t initially part of the equation, students were able to participate in five different ones during Friday’s celebration.
By completing four activities, students could take food from the tables. For some students, like freshmen Dawsyn Burns and Melissa Cheng, the best part of the event was the treats at the end. Students also enjoyed the opportunity to hang out with friends.
“It was really fun,” junior Bella Bernhardt said. She was happy she was able to talk to her friends, “and the food was great.”
Junior Sophia Masel’s favorite part of the event was “just hanging out with my period six math class,” she said.
Both Mrs. Okun and Mr. Brandon McInnis, another geometry teacher involved in the event, agreed that they would certainly continue hosting the festivities.
“Next time, I think we’ll do … more activities to give a little bit more diversity in choices,” Mr. McInnis said. “But overall, it was very fun, very enjoyable.”
“Just like pi, how it’s infinite, celebrating Pi Day, it’s infinite,” Mrs. Okun said.
