Two years ago, Saada Najjar started a coffee shop from a simple truck. Unknown to him, this small business would evolve into a corporate company in less than a year. Haute Coffee now owns four successful locations, including one only a couple minutes from campus at 8242 West State Road 84 in Davie.
“We focus on our ingredients and the craft of coffee,” Najjar said.
The café only uses single-origin Yemeni coffee roasts that are sun dried and pesticide free, gourmet French syrups and ceremonial matcha. Due to the high elevation and the sun-dried process, the coffee has a mocha undertones.
Instead of running a full kitchen, Najjar partners with local bakeries for his pastries. This keeps the menu fresh and community-driven.
“We’ve designed our menu just from hearing from our customers,” Najjar said, “We started to include menu items that are viral across the U.S.”
Being from California, Najjar thinks it’s crucial to stay on top of trends and the initial demand of customers. Some of the drinks, like the “Mexican Mocha,” are inspired by the city of Sacramento, California.
It’s also a popular study spot for students, especially for those at Heritage. Najjar makes an effort in creating an environment where students can study or do homework without being interrupted or sidetracked.
Sophomore Lucia Davis appreciates the peaceful environment.
“The atmosphere is really what helps me focus because there are very few distractions.” Davis said.
