Albums of the summer

in Features by

We are reaching the end of summer, so here are the released albums of the summer so far:

Released June 11 by the hip hop trio Migos, “Culture III” is the end of the trilogy of the rap group’s “Culture” albums. With 19 songs making an hour and 15 minutes and features from stars like Drake, Cardi B and Future, it was received well by critics. Pitchfork described the album as having “a playfulness that invites experimentation and an underlying earnestness that balances the trio’s goofier, more outre cuts.” (Photo/Pitchfork)

“BTS, the Best”

Released by South Korean boy band BTS, it comes as their third Japanese-language album, breaking many records. With 22 songs, it had the biggest first week sales ever for an album in Japan. It was released as a compilation album of the Japanese versions of their Korean songs.

“Back of My Mind”

Released June 18 by singer, songwriter H.E.R., “Back of My Mind” became H.E.R.’s first studio album with leading singles of “Slide” and “Damage.” Receiving lukewarm ratings by critics, the album debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 chart. With 21 songs, it boasted features of Ty Dolla $ign, Cordae, Chris Brown and more.

“Planet Her”

Doja Cat released her third album June 25 with 14 songs and features like Young Thug, Ariana Grande, the Weekend and more. An album of her singing of relationships and betrayal, Doja switches between pop and rap to great reviews. Yet, despite her success with debuting “Number One on Top R&B Albums”, she faced backlash as her producer Dr. Luke was accused of assault by singer Kesha.

“Call Me If You Get Lost”

Also released June 25, Tyler the Creator dropped his much awaited album “Call Me If You Get Lost”. Boasting features of Lil Wayne, Brent Faiyaz, Lil Uzi Vert and more, the album’s 16 songs are mostly quick songs ranging from topics of a torrid affair to his career as a successful musician. Debuting at No. 1 on Billboard 200 albums, “Call Me If You Get Lost” is Tyler’s sixth top 10 piece of music.

“Sling”

Released July 16, “Sling” is the second studio album by singer-songwriter Clairo. Known for her alternative/indie music, Clairo rose to fame from her debut album “Immunity” released in 2019. The album has 12 songs, with the lead single “Blouse” having been already released.

“Lately I Feel Everything”

Alternative R&B singer Willow Smith, daughter of famed actor Will Smith, dropped her fifth record July 16. A previously released single off the album “Transparent Soul” featuring Travis Barker has reached great success, reaching number one on the Billboard Rock Streaming chart. The tracklist has 11 songs, boasting features of Travis Barker and Avril Lavigne.
