EHAS: Skipping the Jargon with Vyom Mishra

in Features by

Sophomore Vyom Mishra has always been interested in finance, and in the summer of freshman year, he decided to act on his passion. In 2021, he founded Skip the Jargon (STJ), a publication organization focused on improving financial literacy amongst teens. Vyom and his team have published online countless articles aimed to provide concise, meaningful information to high schoolers before they head off to college.

After learning about StreetFins, an organization focused on demystifying the world of finance, the inspiration for Skip the Jargon struck. Vyom realized that the underlying lessons from many top finance publications are not reader-friendly and use terminology that could be complicated  to most teens. After consulting with a few ambassadors at Bumper Investing, where he was completing an online internship, the organization came to life.

After getting their feet off the ground, Skip the Jargon has been able to host many distinguished speakers on their publication. The most prominent include successful business leaders working at Harvard, Fidelity Investments, Leap Canada and BLK Capital Management. Now, Skip the Jargon has goals of expanding their reach through working with other financial organizations such as Bumper Investing.  Another one of the main goals Vyom has for Skip the Jargon is to diversify the panel of distinguished speakers in order to appeal to a broader audience of high school students.

As parting advice for students aiming to start their own organizations, Vyom emphasizes that clear communication and deadlines are some of the most important tips he could give. While starting up and running an organization is a lot of work, being able to have strong time-management skills allows him to continue to run an organization he’s passionate about.

Currently, Skip the Jargon is actively looking for students to join the student board. They have positions open in the areas of writing, social media management, website development and outreach. If interested, feel free to apply here
