Girls lacrosse wins big on Senior Night

The bright lights of the field shone on the varsity girls lacrosse team on their senior night, Wednesday, March 6, against Archbishop McCarthy, as they added another win to their season.

From the first whistle the girls immediately scored showing they were ready to dominate the field. They won 21 out of 24 draws with the help of midfielders junior Zoe Horwitz, freshman Lauren Williams and junior Luna Mancuso. The following players helped the girls score their 21 goals against the Mavericks: Williams (5), Horwitz (5), Mancuso (2), senior Courtney Lesser (2), seventh grader Gabriela Zervos (2), freshman Hanna Lubowitz (2), sophomore Samatha Lesser (1), senior Jade Muirhead (1) and seventh grader Raquel de Marchena (1).

At halftime, seniors Muirhead and Lesser walked with their families under a tunnel formed by their teammates’ sticks. Their friends and relatives also came to support, as they watched and celebrated them from the bleachers.

The girls made posters for the seniors, with various pictures of them with their teammates and with small messages of encouragement. “As I was reading the messages they wrote on my board, I teared up,” Muirhead said.

On top of that, the two seniors also received a gift basket from the team with a custom made blanket with a photo of the team in it, so they can always be around them, even when they are off to college.

“This was such a memorable night for me. It was very special and it made me so glad that I got to spend my last season with teammates I love so much,” said Lesser. “Joining this team was one of the best things that happened to me. I have no words to describe how thankful I am for the friendships and support I’ve gotten from these girls.”
