Student journalists take on FSPA in Orlando

Patriot Post and Patriots TV staffers traveled to Orlando last week to participate in the Florida Student Press Association (FSPA) competition, the state’s premier journalism convention. After entering in Spring Digital contests in February, staffers attended the conference — attending workshops, competing in on-the-spot contests and networking with fellow journalists.

FSPA State Convention Awards 2023

Students place in FSPA’s On-the-Spot competitions. In the Steven J. Thor mixed company competition, senior Nithisha Makesh placed third, sophomore Kayra Dayi placed second and freshman Heather Johnson placed first. Johnson also won first for her module design. Junior Ella Gohari is entering her third year on the Patriot Post staff and second year as co-Print-Editor-in-Chief. After co-leading the Patriot Post last year, she is excited to continue taking the Patriot Post to new heights in the year ahead. She has done research with Mrs. Joykutty since 6th grade, and is now editor-in-chief of the Sigma Xi Science Society’s magazine. On weekends, she volunteers with Village Book Builders and OTTER to teach underprivileged children, and is also peer tutor chair for the Science National Honor Society.
