Win the draw, win the game: girls varsity lacrosse  remains undefeated

The varsity girls lacrosse team took down the Gulliver Prep Raiders Feb. 27 16-1, adding another win to their now 5-0 season. The midfielders and attackers dominated the game, as the ball barely touched the Raiders’ stick. Due to this strong offense, along with powerful defense, the Raiders only scored once.

Before entering a game, Coach Corey Engelhard tends to emphasize his saying, “Win the draw, win the game:” and that is exactly what they did. Junior midfielder Luna Mancuso won nine out of 19 draws, which allowed Heritage to run their offensive plays and end with the ball on the back of the net. Freshman Lauren Williams had five draw controls and junior Sara Riveros had one.

Goalies Vanessa Walchli and Jaiden Bomar did not have the opportunity to save many shots, since the defenders did not make it easy for the Raiders to have an opportunity to score. Nonetheless, out of their respectives halves played, Walchli had 83.3% and Bomar 100% saves.

A total of six players scored: freshman Lauren Williams (3), junior Luna Mancuso (5), sophomore Samantha Lesser (2), senior Courtney Lesser (4), seventh grader Raquel de Marchena (1) and sophomore Gianna Virtuoso (1). Seven out of the 16 goals were made from assists by: Williams (3), Mancuso (2) and Courtney Lesser (2).

Congratulations to the Patriots on a successful win. Support them in their upcoming game against Oxbridge Academy March 4.
