The popular treasure hunting show “Outer Banks” is back for another season filled with new adventures, romance and mystery. The new season released Feb. 23 on Netflix. The show is set around the lives of teenagers in a coastal town called the Outer Banks in North Carolina. People are divided into two groups based on class type: the Pogues and the Kooks. Pogues are from The Cut which is known as the south side of the Outer Banks and composed of working class people. Kooks are from Figure 8, or the north side and are members of the elite class.

The show’s plot is set around teenager and Pogue John B (Chase Stokes) who utilizes the help of his three friends — Kiara Carrera (Madison Bailey), JJ (Rudy Pankow) and Pope (Jonathan Davis) — to search for lost treasure that’s linked to the mysterious disappearance of his dad. The main conflict of the show includes others trying to intercept John B and his friends’ journey for treasure, while they endure the typical struggles of being teenagers such as love, fighting and friendship.

——Spoilers!———————

In season three, John B and his crew, which now includes his girlfriend or “wife” Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), find themselves stranded on a deserted island. They found themselves lost while searching for John B’s father Big John and El Dorado, the lost city of gold. Viewers think Big John is dead in seasons one and two because Sarah’s father Ward (Charles Easten) admits to killing him, but Big John actually survives and lives on a deserted island until he manages to escape.

Sarah’s character was beyond insufferable in this season. In season one she cheats on her boyfriend Topper (Austin North) and starts dating John B. In season two the couple “gets married” where they share vows in a boat and they establish his sacred bandana as their “rings.” They tell everyone that they’re married, but they really just made a commitment to each other and there’s no legal basis behind it. Sarah in season three cheats on John B with Topper. They get back together, but it was annoying to see the back and forth and how Sarah gets forgiven for her mistakes time and time again.

In this season viewers see more of Rafe Cameron, Sarah’s brother (Drew Starkey), take on a stronger role where he takes over his father’s business and tries to steal treasure from John B’s group, specifically Pope because the treasure—a huge gold cross—belongs to his family.

Overall, it was nice to see characters come back and new characters take some of the spotlight. The season ended with a possibility of a new treasure hunt for the next season, so it’ll be exciting to see what the next season has in store for the show.
