While senior high students waited at the gates for Friday’s varsity football game to begin, the freshman class had a different agenda. Students filled the lower school pavilion for the annual freshman tailgate 6:00-7:30 before the Heritage vs. North Miami Beach game. Under the supervision of freshman advisor, Ms. Burns, freshmen celebrated the start of the school year with a DJ and pizza.
“My friends were coming to this, so I thought, why not?” freshman Caroline Penas said about attending the event.
The tailgate, along with the Freshman mixer earlier in the day, gave students a chance to become better acquainted with other students in their grade.
“I wanted to come to this to meet new people and hang out with people I haven’t already met,” freshman Ella Charland said.
The SGA sent members to volunteer at the event and monitor the gate surrounding the pavilion.
As they arrived, all freshmen received a ticket for a raffle. At the end of the event, Mrs. Burns pulled tickets out of a bag revealing the winners for the prizes which ranged from Heritage spirit attire to Starbucks and Chick-fil-A gift cards.
“The freshmen that were there were awesome. They seemed to have a great time and the dance floor was packed,” Mrs. Burns said.
