Hollow Knight: Silksong was finally revealed to be coming out Thursday, more than six years after it was announced.
Hollow Knight, Team Cherry’s first game, recently reached over 15 million copies sold. Additionally, Silksong is on 5.2 million users’ wishlists on Steam. A metroidvania much like its predecessor, Silksong will contain much more content, including more enemies and more bosses than the original Hollow Knight.
Silksong wasn’t slowed down by complications in development; rather, its developer, Team Cherry, a small team of three, kept adding more content to the game. Ari Gibson, one of Team Cherry’s co-directors, stated in an interview with Bloomberg: “At some point I just had to stop sketching … I went, ‘Everything I’m drawing here has to end up in the game.’ You realize, ‘If I don’t stop drawing, this is going to take 15 years to finish.’”
Its release is so heavily anticipated that eight other indie game teams decided to delay their games’ releases:, including CloverPit, Faeland, Demonschool, Little Witch in the Woods, Moros Protocol, Aeterna Lucid and Stomp and the Sword of Miracles’ demo. These delays range from a late September release to a 2026 release.
“I feel like a little krill trying to not get eaten by a blue whale,” said Bee Braun, a developer of Stomp and the Sword of Miracles.
Junior Nicholas Duman expressed his anticipation for the game’s release: “I’m super excited. I’m going to be buying it day one, like the second it comes out. I feel like both myself and a lot of the other fans are probably all just probably doing the same thing, all just counting down the days.”

Silksong will be available for PC and the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox, Sony PlayStation 4 and Sony PlayStation 5 on release. It will be free for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. (Image/Team Cherry)
