The Army All-American game honored senior Tedarrell “T.J.” Slaton with a ceremony and a jersey presentation Oct. 24. This most recent accomplishment is one of many for Slaton. He has started at the offensive guard position for the Patriots since his freshman year and has helped the team win its first two football state championships. Slaton is currently ranked in the top 10 players for his position with an excellent rating of four stars according to 247sports.

Slaton’s elite athletic record during his highschool career has earned him 23 college offers, but he has yet to commit.

During the presentation, Slaton delivered a laugh-inducing speech, which allowed his light-hearted personality to shine through. He gave thanks to all of his coaches, but especially his position coach, Travis Spiva, for his successes.

“[Coach Spiva] never put me in a bad situation. He always taught me the correct way to do things on the field,” Slaton said.

Slaton also credited his mother for all her sacrifices for him as he was growing up, and coach Pat Surtain also said a few words about Slaton.

“Seeing you come in through those doors as a ninth grader and seeing you grow as a player and most of all, a young man has truly been a blessing,” Coach Surtain said. “You’re the true definition of untapped potential. The sky’s the limit for you.”

Slaton will play in the Army All-American Bowl Jan. 7 broadcast live on NBC.
